Indian Election and Western media

It’s uncommon to drive around 4:30AM for a person like me who is infamously late riser, but this morning was not common either. Largest democratic festival on the planet was nearing its logical closure and the incumbent party successfully won more hearts than before. NPR ‘Public’ radio which takes BBC feed for late night broadcast was ‘discussing’ the outcome of Indian elections with a derogatory bias. 2 professors with Bengali surnames were calling names for Prime-minister Modi. Prof Banerjee’s argument sounded like non-Hindus were eliminated to ensure victory of ‘Hindu Nationalist’ leader and the process started much before 2014.
I may not be able to educate a ‘Professor’ about how she should revisit her concepts. Hindu nationalism has provided shelter to all religious people persecuted elsewhere (be it Jews, Zoroastrians, Syrian Christians, etc). I feel sad for these channels that claim to be global watchdogs & are so primitive in hiring their researchers(reporters). Western media is totally under-prepared to understand India & picks up news without cross checking with counter opinion & judgment on fringe & rhetoric version vs the reality. I understand they are programmed that way because slavery & supremacy were real here. When west starts believing that preparation of National Citizens Register in a state under highest judicial observation is equal to killing 4 Million innocent people, god help the western wisdom.
Sorry, I digressed.
Reason of the post was more domestic than wasting time on ‘intellectuals’ who sold their souls to ask asylum/citizenship or chose to be informer over hailing the motherland. Many of my Bengali friends kept on lecturing me as to how Bengal is difficult to crack for reasons known to them. Some ex-BJP supporters preferred to see a weak government so that it listens to ‘them’. All these people had their reasons & I had mine. The basic points these urban folks disconnected from masses miss is that how has the incumbent government touched their life and then they decide to go pro or anti regime. It may be difficult to process because it is a new type of politics. Standing in queue for few hours may have troubled those who only want to stand for new iPhone models or Harry Potter books, but for 35 crore poor people who got entry to bank doors through Jan Dhan scheme it was perfectly ok to make Demonetization successful. People will do positive voting if they get benefits credited directly in their account without leakage. Their will be a sense of pride if government takes strong actions against terror camps & internal security is kept in check.
Accept the change in approach to new politics. & Well, don’t insult collective wisdom of close to a billion Indians.
